1979: Mauritania ends participation in the conflict
1988-present day: A peace plan is not under way. The conflict remains unresolved.

WEAPONS SUPPLIERS: Morocco receives weapons from France and the US. The Polisario Front has been
supported by Algeria.
PRESENT SITUATION: In 2003, the UN mission (MINURSO), attempting to settle the sovereignty
dispute, continued to extend its mandate. A peace plan providing
for the self-determination for the Saharawi people is being presented.
