The bodies of more than six thousand murdered Iraqis have been recovered in the past five months. The statistics come not from the Iraqi Interior Ministry or from the Coalition forces – which claim not to count Iraqi casualties – but from an organization of Iraqi coroners. The slaughter is a result of the political impasse that threatens to engulf the entire country. It is no longer news when lifeless bodies turn up in the morning in Baghdad and the south; Iraqi civilians tortured and killed with a bullet to the head, or often decapitated.
